UFC: Relying on God's Word

Recap by Justin Graves

This past week's lesson was on "Relying on God's Word". The lesson included some statistics about "Bible Knowledge" and "Bible Statistics" (see below), but the question I ask myself is "Do I know how to "rely" on God and His Word?" Don't we tend to find ways to take care of all our problems and stresses. Do we turn to scripture for answers in everyday life? Do we pray when we're at work having a crappy day? Do we pray when we get mad at our spouses? If we don't....the question to ask ourselves is why? Ask yourself this question this week. Share your answers with your spouse. Read 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21, and Luke 1:1-4. I don't think knowing statistics and facts about the Bible make us better Christians. The challenge is...are we really "relying" on God's word in our daily lives.

Too true! How often do we read God's word as though we are scrutinizing rather than being scrutinized? Hebrews 4:12 is a well known verse, but I think too many of us read it as though the two-edged were to be merely wielded by us against a dark world. However, the verse goes on to say, " . . . it is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Could this mean our thoughts and intents?
